My Métier d’Excellence
I’m Technical Director for Women’s Ready-to-Wear at Louis Vuitton. My role is to bring the vision of our Creative Director to life by transforming the ideas into amazing pieces. These creations all attest to the savoir-faire and technical skills found in our workshops. One of the distinctive features of our ready-to-wear is the techniques employed to mix and match different materials.
What is your background?
I’ve always followed my passion, and striving for excellence has been a key motivation in everything I’ve done. I learned my métier with my mother. At 13 I was already designing clothes, with more of a technical than creative focus. I also had the privilege of knowing Karl Lagerfeld and then Albert Elbaz, training with them after I left school.
The most important things you need for this métier
Precision is absolutely indispensable. To craft our ready-to-wear you have to know how to follow and master the rules that define our heritage, but also when to go beyond them if required. This range is what makes each piece unique, along with the focus on excellence.
What I love most about my métier
What inspires me most is meeting ever more complex technical challenges and seeing that work and perseverance pay off. When you’re inspired by passion and the goal of crafting something beautiful, you can achieve anything. It’s extremely satisfying to push your limits each day.
Passing on the métier to new generations
Passing on savoir-faire is essential to preserving our Métiers d’Excellence, and this is something to which I attach great importance. I like doing everything possible to promote our manual skills and to get candidates interested in them. And then I like identifying talented people who really have potential and are eager to learn, and enabling them to train as part of an intergenerational duo of artisans.
